Burma Star Memorial

We designed and installed the memorial in Hew Watt Close in Orsett on behalf of Thurrock Council to the memory of all the members of the Thurrock branch of the Burma Star Association.

The Burma Star is a military campaign medal, instituted by the United Kingdom in May 1945 for award to subjects of the British Commonwealth who served in the second world war, specifically in the Burma campaign from 1941 to 1945.

The Burma Star Association is a British veterans' association for ex-servicemen and women of all services who served in the Burma Campaign of World War ll.

The criterion for membership is the award of the Burma Star for service in Burma during World War ll for the necessary qualifying period.

The association was first formed on 26th February 1951 to promote comradeship and the welfare of its members.

Today the Burma Star Association still has some 2,500 members worldwide, with 42 branches functioning in the UK and overseas.
